How I Found Purpose in the Midst of Chaos

Two adults discussing mental health in a counseling session across a glass table indoors.

There’s chaos… and then there’s my life circa 2020–2023 chaos. A cocktail of career pivots, unexpected losses, delayed dreams, and moments where I’d stare at the wall like, “So… this is adulthood?”

It was messy. But somehow, strangely purpose found me there. Or rather, I found it, buried under everything I thought I needed.

It Started With a Breakdown.

I had plans. Big ones. But life had other ideas. Everything I’d built began to crumble. The calendar cleared, the to-do list became irrelevant, and suddenly I was left with just me no title, no certainty, just questions and quiet.

That’s when it hit me: maybe purpose isn’t found in the perfect plan but in presence.

Here’s What Chaos Taught Me:

  1. Purpose isn’t a title. It’s not about the job, the platform, or how many people clap when you talk. Purpose is what remains when everything else is stripped away.
  2. Helping others when I was still healing unlocked something new in me. I found that even when I was in pain, I could be someone else’s reminder that hope is still real.
  3. There’s power in showing up. Even when you’re tired. Even when you feel lost. Because sometimes the most purposeful thing you can do is not quit.

What’s Wild Is; The Chaos Clarified Things.

I no longer needed applause. I no longer needed everything to make sense. I just needed peace. And weirdly, I found it while holding broken pieces in my hand, saying, “OK God, what now?”

And what now was… growth. Impact. Renewal. Restoration. Not all at once, but bit by bit.

So if you’re in the middle of the storm and wondering what it all means: hang in there. Sometimes purpose isn’t loud, it whispers. And sometimes it doesn’t come after the chaos. It emerges from it.

And when it does, you’ll see: nothing was wasted.
